About the Artist

My name is Rosie Port and I am a self taught artist based in Seattle, Washington. I primarily work with watercolor and mixed media elements.

The artistic process has been a vastly important part of my life and in many ways has shaped the person I am today. Growing up I had the privilege of experimenting with many different art forms and watercolor is always something I have circled back to.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and my artwork is frequently inspired by colors and shapes I see in nature. I start my pieces by picking a particular color palette and my imagination takes me from there. I love how I can create contrast, depth and texture with watercolor and I find adding line-work and additional detail with pen and ink gives my pieces the final pizazz they need.

Through my battle with my mental health I have gained an even deeper connection and understanding of how much creating art supports my wellbeing. Art is my medicine, it gives me purpose and connection when I am lost and it allows me to express my emotions in a healthy way. The creative process brings a sense of balance and joy into my life. I hope that by sharing my work and story, I am able to inspire others to explore how the creative process impacts their life.

“I found I could say things with colors and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way — things I had no words for.”
